Last week’s Saturday night was the opening weekend of the BBC’s most successful television extravaganza, 2015’s Strictly Come Dancing, the show that remains at full throttle after a run of so many years.
And, this time round, the quest for glitter-ball glory is already destined to be one of the best and most entertaining contests, with some talent already in dazzling form.
Last Saturday’s show in particular was a blizzard, with nine of the fifteen celebrities shaking their stuff for the first time with results ranging from a touch of hilarity to unpredictable sure-footedness.
Peter Andre, who I did not rate very highly when the selection of contestants was announced, seemed to be surprisingly agile and full of zest which led him to gain the support of the judges who gave him the highest mark of the evening for his effort.
But for me, the highlight of the entire show was undoubtedly Katie Derham, forty-five, who together with her partner, Anton du Beke, did a most scintillating jive, which catapulted them into the position of front runners in the popularity stakes.
Katie, the BBC’s most presentable presenter of the Proms, is a highly respected, elegant lady whose bodily attributes add to her exquisite manner of speech. The view of her sensational legs in action on the dance floor was enough to send anyone into an ecstatic ritual of admiration. As a compulsive viewer of Strictly I shall be glued to my seat from now until the culmination of the contest in December, hoping of course that Katie is crowned the winner to add to her other trophies.
In the meantime, I expect the contest to reach potboiler status!
