The FIFA supremo is being bashed by the Western press on a scale that I have not seen before.
It goes to show how the Establishment can turn on someone as soon as he’s no longer in a position to defend himself. He has been demonised before his guilt has been proven.
A man of seventy-nine deserves a certain measure of sympathy that should have been accorded to him. Not a single good word has been written to acknowledge his long tenure as President of FIFA and yet, despite the hysteria to remove him, he has shown remarkable stamina to stay put and face the music.
He has, so far, refused to be treated as a dead man walking and for that he wins my admiration.
The latest scandal designed to tarnish his reputation is the circulating rumour that, being a ladies man, he has had an affair with the delectable Russian model, Irina Shayk, twenty-nine, who incidentally denies the claim.
The former girlfriend of football star Cristiano Ronaldo is such a stunning dish, as these pictures show, that the story of this being true is hardly conceivable.
And yet, if Sepp Blatter has managed to seduce her then he should be complimented for his good taste and his ability to perform in the bedroom, when some men half his age are pensioned-off sexually. All I can add is: ‘You lucky old sod – sock it to them!’
On a more serious note, though, I think it is time to lay off him and let the current investigation by the FBI and Swiss police take its course. I am neither for nor against him until the true facts are established.
However, I sincerely hope that much law does not end in little justice.
